The Disney Store first opened in Glendale, California on 28th March 1984. The stores are located worldwide, throughout the US, the UK, Italy, Spain, France and Japan. From May 1st 2008, the Walt Disney Company now owns all Disney stores in America, Canada and Europe, but the stores in Japan, like Disneyland Tokyo, are owned by the Oriental Land Company. In 2004 alone, merchandise made $2.5 billion for the company, a figure that backs up just how globally successful Disney really is.
